Landon Donovan has revealed that he is not too concerned about the goals record that he is about to create in the MLS. The United States international is very close to scoring the 135th goal, which would make him top of the all-time list in the MLS records.
However, Donovan has revealed that he never knew about the record until it was brought up to him by the media. The LA Galaxy star, who came close to retiring from football at the start of last season, says that he is unlikely to be thinking about it when he steps onto the pitch next time.
Donovan is one of the celebrated footballers in the history of the MLS. He is widely regarded as the best American to grace the game. His quality has earned him the ability to play at the very top, as he has represented the likes of Bundesliga and Premier league clubs during an illustrious career. However, he is best known for his achievements with LA Galaxy. Bruce Arena, who is his manager at club level praised Donovan by saying that there are simply few players in the world so can reach up to the level of the striker when he is in the right frame of mind.
“To be honest, I don’t think about it until it’s brought up. There’s a good chance I’ll forget before the game starts. There’s no guarantee you’re ever going to score. Is it important? Yeah, it is. It means something to me. But I’ll be glad when it’s over, to be honest, so I can just get back to focusing,” said the striker. “I would say that Landon, when he sets his mind to it and plays up his abilities. I doubt there are too many American-born players that have been at his level,” said Galaxy manager Bruce Arena.
