Landon Donovan has played a major role in American owners taking charge of Swansea City.
The arrival of the new owners has not helped Swansea, as the club have been consistently going down in the Premier league table. There is a serious threat of relegation to the Championship, but that has not prevented the owners from setting long-term ambitions at the club. Donovan has revealed that the club are planning to become the face of American football market due to the ownership. However, he admits that the club can reach out the markets across the world only by qualifying for the Europa league at the very least.
The American owners came into Swansea just a couple of years after the club won the League Cup under the regime of Michael Laudrup.
"I think a lot of clubs are trying to reach out into the American market, or the Chinese market, the Indian market or the South American market. And I think Swansea City are certainly becoming more known in America. We have an advantage if we do things right because we have people involved who are American and people who genuinely care about the club.I think the Swansea name will get bigger and bigger in America and elsewhere. I think most likely every pre-season should be in America,” said Donovan.
