The all-time leading goal-scorer of the USA national football team wants to see Jurgen Klinsmann guide the American team to the 2018 World Cup and Landon Donovan believes that if the German manager is not able to do this, Klinsmann might have to be sacked from his managerial position and bring in someone who is more capable.
Jurgen Klinsmann and his squad are currently competing in Group C along with Trinidad and Tobago, Guatemala and Saint Vincent and the Grenadines. The American outfit is positioned in 2nd place after having collected 7 points from their opening 4 matches.
The national sides that are able to secure the 1rst and the 2nd spot will be advancing through the next rounds of the 2018 FIFA World Cup and its one of these positions that JurgenKlinsmann will have to secure in order to alleviate the pressure that is being built around him.
JurgenKlinsmann rarely uses the same starting XI as he is regularly changing his starting lineup and this is one of the things that the German manager is consistently being critiqued.
During the 4 opening 2018 World Cup qualification matches of USA, the American squad defeated St. Vincent Grenadines and 4 days later they drew with Trinidad and Tobago.
On March 26, USA faced off with Guatemala for their 3rd qualification match and the American squad lost 0-2 but they did manage to get back on track only 4 days later as both nations locked horns with each other and this time around it was USA that came out on top with the victory.
If USA had lost against Guatemala in their 2nd encounter, Landon Donovan claimed that JurgenKlinsmann should’ve been sacked as the retired footballer said: "If you can't beat Guatemala at home in a World Cup qualifier then you probably shouldn't be the coach. It's as simple as that."
The 2 final qualification matches of USA is scheduled to take place on September 2 and September 6 as the team of JurgenKlinsmann faces off with St.Vincent and Grenadines and Trinidad and Tobago respectively. Victories against these teams will ensure that Klinsmann progresses past the group stages.
If Klinsmann is not able to achieve this task, Landon Donovan will probably be at the forefront of having the 51 year old German manager sacked.
